Parent Page Number Board

Setup guide, FAQ and how to get help.

Requirements

  • Rock RMS 19.4 or later.
  • Rock RealTime, which is on by default.
  • For texting: an SMS provider and a system phone number set up in Rock.

Install

Install Parent Page Number Board from the Rock Shop (Admin Tools › Rock Shop). Rock restarts and creates:

  • Admin Tools › Installed Plugins › Parent Page, with the Number Board Manager, Number Board and Parent Page History pages;
  • a Page Parent block on the Check-in Manager person page;
  • a nightly Parent Page Cleanup job.

The pages are viewable by the RSR - Staff Workers and RSR - Staff Like Workers roles. Change this with normal Rock page security on Installed Plugins › Parent Page.

Set up

  1. The TV. On the TV's browser, log in with an account that can view Installed Plugins › Parent Page, then open /parentpage/board?CampusId=<campus Id>. Double-click the board to go full screen. Alternatively, set the Campus block setting on the Number Board block and drop the CampusId.
  2. Choose the number. In the Number Board block settings, set Display Number Source to Check-in Security Code (the default), Family Id or Family Attribute (such as a pager number).
  3. Texting (optional). On the Check-in Manager person page, open the Page Parent block settings, then the Texting section. Turn on Enable Texting, choose a Send Text From number, and edit the Text Message if you like. It's Lava, with the merge fields Parent, Child, Number, Campus, Location and Group. Texts go to the adults in the child's family who have a mobile number with SMS enabled.
  4. Staff links. /parentpage/manager opens the Number Board Manager. Add ?CampusId=<campus Id> to open a specific campus.

Using it

  • Page: in Check-in Manager, open the child, then click Page Parent.
  • Elevate: use Elevate on the same row, or in the Number Board Manager.
  • Clear: click Clear when the parent arrives. Anything left over is cleared automatically at the end of the day.
  • Custom code: in the Number Board Manager, type a code, then click Add to Board.

FAQ

The TV shows a login page.

The Number Board is on Rock's internal site, so the TV must be logged in. Use a kiosk account that has View access to Installed Plugins › Parent Page.

There's a small plug icon in the corner of the board.

The board can't reach Rock, so the numbers may be out of date. Check the TV's network connection. The board reconnects by itself.

Numbers take up to 30 seconds to appear.

Live updates aren't reaching the board, so it's falling back to polling every 30 seconds. Check that Rock RealTime is working and that your proxy or firewall allows WebSockets to the Rock site.

Yesterday's numbers are gone.

That's intentional. Pages only show on the day they were made. The nightly cleanup job records them in the history as Automatic (day ended).

The “Also text parents” checkbox doesn't appear.

Enable Texting must be on, and a Send Text From number must be chosen in the Page Parent block settings.

A page was sent, but the parent didn't get a text.

Texts go only to adults in the child's family who have a mobile number with SMS enabled, and who haven't opted out of texting. Check the parent's phone number in Rock, and the communication history on their profile.

Can the board show a different number?

Yes. Set Display Number Source on the Number Board block to the security code, the family Id or a family attribute. Numbers already on the board switch straight away.

Uninstall

Rock doesn't run uninstall steps automatically, so the plugin package includes them. When you install from the Rock Shop, Rock keeps a copy of the package on the server.

  1. Get the uninstall script. On the Rock server, open the Rock web folder, then App_Data\RockShop\ and the Parent Page Number Board folder inside it. Copy the newest .plugin file somewhere else, rename the copy to end in .zip, and open it. Inside is uninstall\run.sql. If you can't reach the server, email us for the script.
  2. Run it in Admin Tools › SQL Editor. It removes the pages, blocks, job, settings and all paging history.
  3. Delete the plugin files from the Rock web folder: Bin\com.worksinallthings.ParentPage.dll and the folder Plugins\com_worksinallthings\ParentPage. You can also delete the package's folder in App_Data\RockShop.
  4. Restart Rock.

Reinstalling later: Rock remembers Rock Shop installs in App_Data\InstalledStorePackages.json, so the Rock Shop will still show the plugin as installed. To reinstall, either copy the content folder from the saved package into the Rock web folder and restart Rock, or remove the Parent Page entry from that file and install from the Rock Shop again. The uninstall script clears the plugin's setup history, so either way it sets itself up from scratch.
